What the public record says about a leak adjustment
BSMWC does not publish a guaranteed private-leak credit, percentage reduction, repair-receipt deadline, or lifetime adjustment cap in the reviewed 2026 customer materials. The Company’s education page says it may check the meter as a courtesy and places responsibility for leaks between the meter and building on the shareholder. For a suspected billing error, the rules allow a written meter-test request with a $50 deposit; if the meter error exceeds 2%, a fast-meter overcharge may be refunded for the affected period up to three billing cycles, while a non-registering meter may be estimated using the same period of the prior year or comparable customers. A customer should stop the leak, keep plumber invoices and photographs, record meter readings, and request a written review from customer service before paying or arranging the disputed amount.
