Notice and timing
How delinquency is handled
Grace period after the due date
Cal Water's standard delinquency materials do not state a universal grace-period number after the printed due date. The bill's due date controls ordinary payment status; the discontinuation notice provides the later statutory process and an opportunity to pay, arrange payments, or request an extension before shutoff.
Late-fee calculation
The reviewed Cal Water tariff and customer materials do not list a routine percentage late fee or daily interest charge for ordinary residential past-due balances. Delinquent customers remain responsible for the unpaid bill and may incur separately authorized reconnection, re-establishment, deposit, returned-payment, special-service, or third-party payment charges. The individual account notice controls any item actually assessed.
Disconnection timeline
Cal Water's published standard says a delinquency notice warns that service may be discontinued after 60 days, subject to required notices and protections. A second notice is used when billing and service addresses differ; an occupant-notice effort is made at least 10 days before discontinuance; and a final door hanger is posted at least five business days before shutoff. Service is not routinely disconnected at night or on weekends. Eligible customers may request an arrangement of up to six months or an extension of up to two weeks.
