Notice and timing
How delinquency is handled
Grace period after the due date
The bill is due upon receipt and becomes past due on the delinquent date printed on the bill; no universal day count is exposed in the reviewed page.
Late-fee calculation
A delinquent fee equal to 10% of the balance is added when the bill becomes past due. Continued nonpayment adds a processing fee of 0.5% per month, followed by shutoff and a further $25 nonpayment processing fee, or $35 when the restoration request occurs after working hours. Returned checks or automatic payments add a $25 fee and must be replaced with cash, cashier's check, money order, or credit card.
Disconnection timeline
After the delinquent date, Fairfield adds 10% and then 0.5% per month while unpaid. The City mails a shutoff notice identifying a shutoff date; if the balance remains unpaid, service is interrupted and the applicable $25 processing fee ($35 after hours) is added.
