Notice and timing
How delinquency is handled
Grace period after the due date
Bills are due and payable at the office or designated agent on the date of issue; service may be terminated only after five days’ written termination notice and twenty days have elapsed since mailing of the original unpaid bill.
Late-fee calculation
The reviewed current rate and rules pages do not expose a fixed late-fee percentage; the District may require deposits, and deposits accrue interest at the lawful rate until refunded.
Disconnection timeline
For nonpayment, the District must provide five days’ written notice of termination and wait twenty days from mailing the original unpaid bill before discontinuing service. A physician, nurse, or public-health certificate can delay termination for qualifying illness until alternative arrangements or 30 days after certification, whichever comes first.
