Notice and timing
How delinquency is handled
Grace period after the due date
15 days after the billing date, which is the due date displayed on the bill. SPRWS's 2026 fee page states that the late fee is applied within 30 days of the bill date.
Late-fee calculation
A late fee equal to 5% of total current charges is applied within 30 days of the bill date. Returned checks or insufficient funds incur a $30 fee per instance. If a customer cannot pay in full, SPRWS instructs the customer to call 651-266-6350 and request a credit arrangement; the utility says this can prevent certification to property taxes, which otherwise incurs a $15 certification fee plus percentage-based certification interest.
Disconnection timeline
SPRWS's current official fraud-prevention page explicitly says that SPRWS does not shut off water for lack of payment and will not demand immediate payment by phone, text, or at the door. Accordingly, the public 2026 pages do not publish a delinquency day-count leading to physical nonpayment termination. Instead, a customer who cannot pay should request a credit arrangement before the account is certified to property taxes. The published $50 water shutoff/turn-on fee applies to shutoffs for code violation, nonpayment, construction, seasonal shutoff, or emergency in the rates table, so the billing record should be treated as a fee schedule rather than proof of a current universal nonpayment cutoff timeline.
