Payment channels

Pay Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities

Use the provider’s verified online, telephone, mail, or counter instructions. Check the final confirmation screen for the amount, processing date, and any transaction fee before submitting.

Primary online route

Use the official payment portal

The direct portal is the fastest route when it is available. The provider identifies its payment gateway as Salt Lake City Public Utilities Customer Account Portal; the public City portal does not separately identify an outside payment processor.. Never enter account credentials into a lookalike site reached through an unsolicited message.

Alternative channels

Mail, text, and in-person payment instructions

Pay by text

The Public Utilities Customer Portal supports email and account notifications and the City advertises water-use charts and alerts, but the current public payment instructions do not publish an automatic text-to-pay keyword or SMS debit flow. Customers can register with the account number, house number or last name, one identity verifier such as DOB/last four SSN/Tax ID/driver license, email, and password, then enable available account notifications. Record direct text-to-pay as not publicly stated and use the official portal or phone number for payment authorization.

Mail-in address

Salt Lake City Public Utilities, P.O. Box 840173, Los Angeles, CA 90084-0173. Include the payment stub and account number and send a check or money order as directed on the current bill; do not mail cash.

Counters, drop boxes, and office hours

Salt Lake City Public Utilities Customer Service, 1530 S. West Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84115, is open 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. The portal lists an in-person payment option at that office and a payment drop box near the fire hydrant on the north side of 1530 S. West Temple. A second drop box is at Key Bank Sugarhouse Office, 2299 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT 84106. The SLC Treasurer's Office at City & County Building, 451 S. State Street, is also listed for in-person payment. Customers should confirm accepted cards, cash, checks, and holiday closures with Public Utilities before visiting.

Accepted digital instruments

What you can use online

The City payment portal supports online bill payment, multiple accounts, automatic withdrawal, e-statements, account history, and water-use charts. The public page does not enumerate the exact current card brands or digital wallets; bank-account/electronic withdrawal is supported and customers should verify available card options at checkout. Pay-by-phone is available through (801) 483-6900. The City does not publish Apple Pay, Google Pay, or a distinct text-to-pay method as a standard current option.

2026 transaction pricing

Convenience fees

The current Salt Lake City Public Utilities payment page does not display a fixed 2026 online card, ACH, or percentage convenience fee in accessible public text. Customers should treat the processor charge as not publicly stated until the portal presents the account-specific amount and review it before submitting. Any current fee schedule may be updated annually through the City's consolidated fee schedule.

Fees can vary by payment type, channel, account class, and processor terms. The checkout screen is the final fee disclosure.

Payment guidance

Choose the payment channel that fits your deadline

The safest payment path is the one published by Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities and matched to the account information on your bill. Online portals are convenient, but telephone, mail, counter, and drop-box options may follow different posting schedules and may use different fees.

For a routine payment, save the final confirmation page or IVR number and check when the transaction will post. For a same-day shut-off notice, do not assume that submitting a card payment automatically stops a field order; ask the provider what amount and confirmation are required.

Never send your account number, password, card details, or bank information to Water Ledger. Those details belong only on the provider’s verified payment channel or at an authorized counter.
