What the public record says about a leak adjustment
Renton’s 2026 leak policy allows up to two regular meter-reading cycles for a qualifying leak and permits the water portion to be billed at 50% of the excess consumption charge. Eligibility is once every five years for leaks in the customer-side service line between the meter and building foundation; interior-building and irrigation leaks are excluded. Submit a written request within 60 days of discovering the leak or receiving a City unusual-consumption notice, include the affected periods/location/type, and attach a repair receipt with a clear description; photos are recommended. Sewer can be adjusted by 100% for leaked water that did not enter the sanitary sewer, with a $2,000-plus adjustment requiring Finance Committee review.
