Notice and timing
How delinquency is handled
Grace period after the due date
20 days after the bill date: accounts are considered delinquent and late fees may be assessed at any time thereafter. Service is subject to disconnection when payment has not been received by the 45th day after the bill date.
Late-fee calculation
The late fee is 1.5% of the past-due balance, with a $5 minimum. A $25 plus tax delinquency/reconnect fee is charged when service is disconnected. Returned payments incur a $25 fee and may require immediate repayment by cash, cashier's check, or money order; a deposit or immediate disconnection can also follow a returned payment used to prevent shutoff.
Disconnection timeline
Day 0 is the bill date. Payment is expected by day 20, after which the account is delinquent and the 1.5% late fee may be assessed. If payment is still not received by day 45, Gilbert may disconnect service and charge $25 plus tax. Reestablishment requires the full outstanding balance plus fees and deposits; tampering with a disconnected meter can produce a $100 tampering charge and prosecution.
