What the public record says about a leak adjustment
California American Water's formal Adjustment Request process covers excessive-use bills caused by a leak inside the property or in an outside service line, a known cause such as irrigation left running, or a single unexplained high-use period followed by normal use and a field investigation. The customer should first stop the leak or correct the cause, retain repair documentation, and submit the request within six months of the occurrence. The form may be submitted digitally, emailed to csc.correspondencebilling@amwater.com, faxed to 618-433-4569, or mailed to California American Water, P.O. Box 2798, Camden, NJ 08010, Attn: Adjustment Request. Processing can take up to 20 business days; the company advises paying a normal bill while the request is pending, says the open balance is not subject to collection during processing, and sends an approval or denial letter. The reviewed public materials do not state a universal percentage or lifetime credit cap; the adjustment is determined under the company's investigation and tariff policy.
