Payment channels

Pay SOUTH BEND WATER WORKS

Use the provider’s verified online, telephone, mail, or counter instructions. Check the final confirmation screen for the amount, processing date, and any transaction fee before submitting.

Primary online route

Use the official payment portal

The direct portal is the fastest route when it is available. The provider identifies its payment gateway as South Bend Municipal Utilities online portal; current public page does not name the underlying payment vendor. Never enter account credentials into a lookalike site reached through an unsolicited message.

Alternative channels

Mail, text, and in-person payment instructions

Pay by text

Create an account at the South Bend Municipal Utilities portal to manage account information, AutoPay, paperless billing, and text-to-pay. The City’s help article confirms text-to-pay is an account feature but does not publish a keyword, short code, or separate opt-in number; customers should enroll through the portal or call 311.

Mail-in address

South Bend Municipal Utilities, PO Box 7125, South Bend, IN 46634-7125. The City asks customers to include the bill stub to expedite posting.

Accepted digital instruments

What you can use online

The current City utility page identifies MasterCard, Discover, and Visa credit/debit cards for online payment, with no additional online fee. Automatic bank draft is available through the City’s authorization form. The portal help materials also support saved card payment and text-to-pay account features; Apple Pay and Google Pay are not identified by the current municipal page.

2026 transaction pricing

Convenience fees

The current South Bend Utilities Division page states there is no additional fee for online payments and no additional fee for the IVR phone service. A separate older pay page advertises $3.95 card and $0.95 ACH fees, but the current 2026 utilities page supersedes that older instruction; customers should verify the amount shown at checkout.

Fees can vary by payment type, channel, account class, and processor terms. The checkout screen is the final fee disclosure.

Payment guidance

Choose the payment channel that fits your deadline

The safest payment path is the one published by SOUTH BEND WATER WORKS and matched to the account information on your bill. Online portals are convenient, but telephone, mail, counter, and drop-box options may follow different posting schedules and may use different fees.

For a routine payment, save the final confirmation page or IVR number and check when the transaction will post. For a same-day shut-off notice, do not assume that submitting a card payment automatically stops a field order; ask the provider what amount and confirmation are required.

Never send your account number, password, card details, or bank information to Water Ledger. Those details belong only on the provider’s verified payment channel or at an authorized counter.
