Delinquency and service protection

Understand the shut-off process before it reaches your door

The safest time to ask about a past-due balance, payment arrangement, or hardship protection is before the final notice. This page translates the provider’s published rules into a practical checklist.

Notice and timing

How delinquency is handled

Grace period after the due date

20 days after the bill is rendered for the 5% late-payment charge under the Stark tariff; Ohio customer-rights rules also require residential bills to be delinquent no sooner than 14 days after billing and prohibit nonpayment disconnection before the applicable notice period.

Late-fee calculation

The Stark tariff charges 5% of the current bill after the stated past-due date and $20 for a dishonored payment. The customer-rights material says a mailed payment postmarked on or before the past-due date avoids the late fee, and a weekend or holiday due date rolls to the first full business day.

Disconnection timeline

For nonpayment, the tariff requires at least 15 days of written notice and says disconnection may not occur before 15 days after the due date. After payment of arrears, required deposit and reconnection charge, Aqua generally reconnects by the close of the following regular business day; same-day restoration requires notice by 12:30 p.m. and proof of payment, with an after-hours fee potentially applying.

Statutory warning protocol

What notice should you expect?

Aqua's Ohio tariff requires written nonpayment notice at least 15 days before service termination. The reviewed tariff says personal delivery is attempted for certain notices and, if unsuccessful, the notice may be securely attached in a conspicuous place; the public pages do not document a text, automated-call or pink-mailer sequence for Massillon.

If a notice seems wrong

Document the account balance, payment confirmation, notice date, and any household medical or accessibility concern. Then call the provider using the contact information on its official bill or profile before the stated deadline.

Restoring service

Reconnection costs and timing

$55 during regular business hours and $170 outside regular business hours under the Stark Regional Division tariff. The customer must also pay arrears and any required deposit; same-day restoration must be coordinated with Aqua by the stated cutoff time.

Need a payment arrangement?

Ask before the shut-off date

Tell the customer-service representative that you are responding to a delinquency notice and ask specifically about installment plans, hardship protection, charity referrals, and the amount required to stop the disconnection order.

Customer protection guide

What to do when a bill becomes urgent

A delinquency notice from Aqua Ohio, Inc. - Stark Regional Division (Massillon) should be treated as a time-sensitive account document. Read the exact due date, amount required, notice method, and contact instructions on the notice, then compare them with the provider details in this guide.

If you have already paid, gather the confirmation number and posting date. If you cannot pay the full amount, call before the stated shut-off date and ask about arrangements, hardship protections, agency referrals, and the minimum amount needed to pause action.

Keep the conversation specific: ask what will stop the order, when the payment must post, whether a reconnection fee applies, and whether the utility requires a separate request for medical, accessibility, or household-protection status.
