Delinquency and service protection

Understand the shut-off process before it reaches your door

The safest time to ask about a past-due balance, payment arrangement, or hardship protection is before the final notice. This page translates the provider’s published rules into a practical checklist.

Notice and timing

How delinquency is handled

Grace period after the due date

A 10% late fee is added on the next business day after the due date printed on the bill. A disconnection notice is mailed with a disconnection date seven days later. Customers may request an extension if they call or visit by the disconnection date; the published extension is for an additional 10 calendar days.

Late-fee calculation

Cleburne’s FAQ specifies a 10% late fee beginning on the next business day after the printed due date. It also lists a $25 returned-check fee and a $25 disconnect fee. No separate daily interest, escalating percentage, or partial-payment allocation rule is published on the reviewed utility pages.

Disconnection timeline

The published sequence is: the account reaches the bill’s due date; on the next business day a 10% late fee is added; a disconnection notice is mailed with a disconnection date seven days later; and an extension of up to 10 additional calendar days may be available when requested by the disconnection date. Customers who are already disconnected must call Utility Billing and should contact the office before 3:00 p.m. for same-day restoration.

Statutory warning protocol

What notice should you expect?

Cleburne mails a disconnection notice that specifies a disconnection date seven days in the future. The City offers a possible 10-calendar-day extension when the customer calls or visits by that date. CivicReady can send emergency and boil-water notifications by text, email, and voice, but the utility pages do not describe a separate automated delinquency-call cadence, colored paper notice, or door-hanger protocol.

If a notice seems wrong

Document the account balance, payment confirmation, notice date, and any household medical or accessibility concern. Then call the provider using the contact information on its official bill or profile before the stated deadline.

Restoring service

Reconnection costs and timing

The FAQ lists a $25 disconnect fee. After disconnection, the customer must contact Utility Billing at 817-645-0919; the City asks customers to contact the office before 3:00 p.m. for same-day restoration. Payments after 3:00 p.m. and before 5:00 p.m. incur an additional $50 charge for same-day restoration. The public page does not describe a weekend or overnight reconnect price beyond the after-3:00 p.m. charge.

Need a payment arrangement?

Ask before the shut-off date

Tell the customer-service representative that you are responding to a delinquency notice and ask specifically about installment plans, hardship protection, charity referrals, and the amount required to stop the disconnection order.

Customer protection guide

What to do when a bill becomes urgent

A delinquency notice from City of Cleburne Utility Billing Department should be treated as a time-sensitive account document. Read the exact due date, amount required, notice method, and contact instructions on the notice, then compare them with the provider details in this guide.

If you have already paid, gather the confirmation number and posting date. If you cannot pay the full amount, call before the stated shut-off date and ask about arrangements, hardship protections, agency referrals, and the minimum amount needed to pause action.

Keep the conversation specific: ask what will stop the order, when the payment must post, whether a reconnection fee applies, and whether the utility requires a separate request for medical, accessibility, or household-protection status.
