Payment channels

Pay Virginia-American Water Company

Use the provider’s verified online, telephone, mail, or counter instructions. Check the final confirmation screen for the amount, processing date, and any transaction fee before submitting.

Primary online route

Use the official payment portal

The direct portal is the fastest route when it is available. The provider identifies its payment gateway as American Water MyWater. Never enter account credentials into a lookalike site reached through an unsolicited message.

Phone IVR

1-855-748-6066; general customer service is 1-800-452-6863 and emergency service is available through that customer-service number 24/7

Have your account number and payment instrument ready. Follow the provider’s recorded prompts and retain the confirmation number.

Alternative channels

Mail, text, and in-person payment instructions

Pay by text

Virginia American Water's reviewed 2026 payment instructions do not publish a universal text-to-pay enrollment keyword or SMS account-payment workflow. The company does allow customers to have a payment-location barcode texted to a mobile phone for use at an authorized retail location; that is a barcode-delivery convenience, not enrollment in recurring text-to-pay. Customers should use MyWater or call customer service for any service-area-specific mobile option.

Mail-in address

Virginia American Water, PO Box 371880, Pittsburgh, PA 15250-7800. For overnight or certified delivery: Virginia American Water, Box #6029, 8430 West Bryn Mawr Avenue, 3rd Floor, Chicago, IL 60631; reference Virginia American Water Box #6029. The correspondence address, Virginia American Water, 2223 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22314, is not a payment counter and should not be used for mailed payments.

Counters, drop boxes, and office hours

The company directs customers to its official authorized-payment-location map rather than publishing one universal Virginia counter. Retail locations can accept payments when the location's posted rules permit, and the MyWater barcode may be texted to the customer for checkout. Virginia American Water's Alexandria correspondence office at 2223 Duke Street does not accept payments in person or by mail. Hours, payment instruments, convenience charges, and same-day posting therefore vary by the selected authorized retailer; customers should verify the location before visiting.

Accepted digital instruments

What you can use online

MyWater supports bank-account payments at no additional company transaction fee, while credit-card payments are supported through Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. The telephone system accepts those major card brands and electronic checks. Customers may also enroll in Auto Pay from a checking or savings account or use a card; wallet products such as Apple Pay or Google Pay are not identified as universal methods in the reviewed Virginia instructions.

2026 transaction pricing

Convenience fees

The published Virginia payment instructions state a $1.95 transaction fee for credit-card payments in MyWater and for telephone card payments. Auto Pay by checking or savings account has no additional transaction fee; Auto Pay by credit card carries the $1.95 per-transaction fee. Guest bill-pay transactions may display a fee for the selected method at checkout, so the exact guest amount is not represented as one universal statewide figure.

Fees can vary by payment type, channel, account class, and processor terms. The checkout screen is the final fee disclosure.

Payment guidance

Choose the payment channel that fits your deadline

The safest payment path is the one published by Virginia-American Water Company and matched to the account information on your bill. Online portals are convenient, but telephone, mail, counter, and drop-box options may follow different posting schedules and may use different fees.

For a routine payment, save the final confirmation page or IVR number and check when the transaction will post. For a same-day shut-off notice, do not assume that submitting a card payment automatically stops a field order; ask the provider what amount and confirmation are required.

Never send your account number, password, card details, or bank information to Water Ledger. Those details belong only on the provider’s verified payment channel or at an authorized counter.
