Provider-specific review
What the public record says about a leak adjustment
West Virginia American Water’s current Leak Adjustment Policy allows residential, commercial, and other public-authority customers to request review in MyWater through Account Actions > Request a Leak Adjustment; industrial and sale-for-resale customers are excluded. The usage must exceed 200% of historical usage and be attributable to a customer-side leak. The customer must provide adequate proof that a leak occurred and was repaired, such as repair-item receipts or a contractor invoice, and the company may request additional documentation. The adjustment is calculated under PSC rules using the applicable incremental cost of water, generally covers no more than the leak-development billing period and the following period, or at the company’s discretion the two highest consecutive leak months; estimated periods or unusual circumstances can receive an exception. A second service-pipe leak may lead to a recommendation to replace the service pipe, and repeated use or abuse can result in denial or service discontinuation under the tariff.
