What the public record says about a leak adjustment
MWA’s adjustment applies to leaks after the meter that were not caused by customer/property-owner negligence. Usage must return to normal and repair evidence or an affidavit may be required. Average use is normally based on the three months before the leak plus one month after, with professional judgment for seasonal factors; the difference between average and wasted water is charged at the applicable rates and half of the calculated water and sewer amount is credited. A single-family customer pays no more than three times average consumption, and no more than two months may be adjusted in a rolling 12-month period unless MWA failed its procedures.
